Is this the summer you've finally decided to undertake a home improvement project all by yourself? Are you really that capable? Remember, a poorly executed improvement project could LOWER the value of your home.
If I haven't dissuaded you, think about bringing in a contractor to be your tutor while you work. Here are a few tips if you want to do-it-yourself with a pro looking on.
- Make sure you can be available during the contractor's timetable.
- Agree to a payment schedule before the first nail is hammered.
- Be sure both our and the contractor's insurance policies cover injuries or mistakes on the job.
- Be sure warranties on materials won't be null and void if not installed by a pro.
Oh, and by the way, decide all of this before you start the project. No pro will want to step in after you've made a hash of things.
Good luck.
