Tom Parsons, our good friend and CEO/founder of Bestfares.com, a discount travel website that tracks airfare changes, just sent us this news item about last-minute airfare deals if you're hoping to travel in the next few days.
We wanted to be sure you knew about it, so here's an excerpt from Tom's notice:
Arlington, TX -- United Airlines is offering a no-advance purchase system-wide airfare sale good for travel between June 27 and July 10, 2008. This is the first system-wide airfare sale offered by one of the six major legacy airlines since the Christmas and New Year's 2007/2008 travel period.
Travel is valid for this sale through July 10, 2008. No advance purchase is required. A two-night minimum stay is required (one-night minimum for Saturday departures). Tickets must be purchased no later than 11:59 p.m. eastern time on June 30, 2008.
There still may be some cheaper airfares between select markets. Those who are still looking for a good deal for the 4th of July weekend should be flexible and check alternate airports. The normal non-sale airfares can be as much as $2,000 roundtrip with no advance purchase. With these new holiday airfares ranging from $228 roundtrip for short haul flights to a maximum of $428 roundtrip for coast-to-coast fares, this gives many more travelers the opportunity to fly on a reasonable airfare during the extended 4th of July holiday travel period.
This United airfare sale has been matched by the majority of the legacy airlines.
