Are Social Security benefits available to me and my children if my spouse dies?
Yes. Call Social Security at 800-772-1213; TTY number: 800-325-0778. Generally, you can't collect survivors' benefits if you remarry. However, if you remarry after age 60 (50 if disabled), you will still be entitled to benefit payments on your former spouse's record. If you remarry at age 62 or older, you may get benefits on the record of your new spouse if they are higher.Want to read our answers to more of your questions?
